SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - A jury has found that a former Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy was sane when he tortured and raped his then-wife and her lover.
An Orange County jury made the finding Thursday for Robert McClain, who was convicted earlier this week in the brutal attack in September 2008.
Prosecutors say McClain held his now ex-wife and her boyfriend captive, beating and sexually assaulting both of them because he was enraged over their affair.
The man suffered brain damage and needed four months of rehabilitation to learn how to walk and talk. McClain's wife also was badly injured.
McClain faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
