Drivers headed along Highway 101 in Gaviota could experience some delays on Wednesday. Caltrans is working to reduce the amount of rocks falling onto the roadway. That's taking place on the northbound side of Highway 101 next to the rest area and Gaviota Tunnel.

On Tuesday, workers were scaling the rocky slope to remove material. The work will continue on Wednesday from 8 am until 2 pm.

Drivers we talked with say it's needed. Sue Olt, driver, said, "It's a good thing. I know every winter when we have the rains the rocks come down and block the highway, so it's a good thing." Caltrans say the $700,00 project is expected to wrap up by the end of August.
