The Templeton football team returns a good amount of talent from last years team that finished 7-6 and made it to the CIF semifinals. The Eagles received a tough blow in the offseason when last year's leading rusher, Matt Arace tore an ACL during passing league. He'll miss the entire season, Arace accounted for 1,016 yards and six touchdowns last year. Even without him the Eagles expect to give Lompoc a run in the Los Padres League. The Braves have won 20 straight games but the last team to beat them was Templeton.
"We definitely want to win league and we're aiming for Lompoc definitely. We want them really bad and we're coming for them" said senior linebacker/wide receiver Jackson Wheeler.
Templeton feels good about what it can accomplish this season in large part because most of the skills position players are back from last years team.
"There's a lot of confidence. All our returners, we had a big role last year on the team and we're going to have an even bigger role this year" said senior running back/linebacker Connor Truhitte.
Templeton will run a no-huddle offense this season. The coaches feel with the experience the team has at quarterback and the skill positions, they'll be able to handle the faster pace. Senior Alex Elterman is back at quarterback after taking half the snaps at the position last year.
"We're working hard and using that old cliche, we're taking it one opponent at a time. One possession at a time and we can't look too far into the future because it will bite us" said second year head coach Dan Loney.
Templeton and the rest of the Los Padres League will have a tougher time making a playoff run this year as the entire league has been moved up from division four to division three.
Templeton opens up on Friday at Carpinteria. The Eagles won 41-28 at Carpinteria in the first round of the playoffs last season.
