Eye drops may help lower Cholesterol

Drugs used to treat high cholesterol may be able to help patients with Macular Degeneration.

It is the leading cause of blindness among older adults. One potential cause is a build-up of white blood cells that are supposed to clear cholesterol from the eyes. These cells also trigger an abnormal amount of blood vessel growth.

Researchers at Washington University gave mice cholesterol-lowering drugs in the form of eye drops. They found the drops cut down on the buildup of blood vessels and white blood cells in the eyes.
