SAN DIEGO (AP) - Authorities are resuming the search for 17-year-old Chelsea King as her father holds out hope she is still alive.

More than 1,000 volunteers and law enforcement officials aided by an FBI dive team searched a lake and nearby park Monday in San Diego County. On Tuesday morning they resumed searching for the Poway girl, who vanished after visiting a running trail five days
ago.

King's father, Brent King, told "The Early Show" on CBS that he will keep hoping for her safe return.

Convicted sex offender John Gardner III is being held on suspicion of her rape and murder. In 2000, he pleaded guilty to molesting a 13-year-old girl. Prosecutors say they will decide by Wednesday whether to charge him.
