The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office said on Tuesday that 40-year old Brian Keith Reid allegedly shot and killed his father and critically wounded his mother after a family get-together at Orcutt Community Park on Monday.
The Sheriff's office said the shootings took place at around 6pm on Monday evening. Many people were out celebrating the Labor Day holiday, and they say several witnesses saw the alleged attack. They say the cause of the shootings is still under investigation.
Many residents of Orcutt reacted on Tuesday to the news of the shootings. Many said they were shocked but said they acknowledged that the shootings were a domestic and isolated incident.
The Sheriff's office said Reid was arrested at Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria after he showed up after the shootings, for an unrelated medical issue. Deputies arrested him at the hospital without incident. They say he has been booked into Santa Barbara County Jail and faces charges of murder and attempted murder.
