SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - The FBI is set to offer an update on its plans to excavate a well site in Central California linked to two serial murderers known as the "Speed Freak Killers."
The agency has scheduled a briefing in Sacramento for 10 a.m. Monday. Among other issues, it is expected to explain how it would handle any remains and other material it uncovers once it begins excavating the well in the San Joaquin County city of Linden.
The FBI took over responsibility for the excavation from the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department, which was criticized for its handling of the operation.
The well has been linked to Wesley Shermantine and Loren Herzog, the so-called Speed Freak Killers who authorities say went on a methamphetamine-fueled killing spree in the 1980s and 90s.
