Central Coast residents will have to wait until July to find out if a local doctor's diet drug will get FDA approval.

Doctor Thomas Najarian of Los Osos developed the drug, called Qnexa. The drug is manufactured by the company "Vivus."

On Tuesday, an FDA panel extended the review period to July 17th.

If the drug is approved by the FDA, it will become the first new prescription weight loss drug in more than 10 years.
