A new study of more than 2,000 women in Norway found women with a fear of childbirth spent about an hour and a half longer in labor than their peers.
These women also had more deliveries requiring forceps or vacuum extraction, as well as emergency C-sections.
Researchers say about five to 20% of pregnant women have a fear of giving birth, many times due to young age, being a first time mom, psychological problems, or a lack of support.
