Fed Ex pilot Mark Lindgren flew his last flight today after 40 years of service.
It's a tradition that on a pilot's last flight, fire trucks are rolled out to the runway and spray a pathway to a new beginning.
Friends and family gathered to see him as he landed at San Luis Obispo airport on Friday afternoon.
"I guess you could say that that water bridge is sort of a gate to the next step in life," said his son, Eric Lindgren.
Eric says Mark plans to do some fishing and spend more time with his wife at home.
