The California Highway Patrol received a call just after 11:00 Saturday night after a vehicle hit a pedestrian. The collision happened on southbound Highway 101 just north of Milpas Street in Santa Barbara.

The CHP says a female pedestrian was walking across the lanes of the freeway. While crossing, the 26 year-old was hit and killed initially by a Honda and then struck by multiple cars. There was a dog that was also hit and killed by passing cars.

The CHP believes the dog was the victim's.

Both the victim and dog died before being able to be transported to a hospital.

Additional evidence links a Kia to the traffic collision. The CHP is looking for the driver to the car believed to have moderate damage to the front right corner. The collision remains under investigation; anyone with information is encouraged to contact the CHP.
