Three Central Coast boys volleyball teams continue their quests for CIF titles on Thursday. The Arroyo Grande, Morro Bay and Santa Ynez High squads play second round matches.
The PAC 7 League champion Eagles travel to El Toro with a 6pm start time. The 14-1 Eagles are coming off a thrilling five game, come-from-behind opening round win over Saugus. Taylor Jenish led the way with 15 kills for AG. The Eagles are flying with confidence going into their second round match. "We knew we could go up against the perennial powers. So to finally see that on paper, it's right here and now so now's the time to shine," said senior libero Tanner Howard.
The Los Padres League champions from Morro Bay travel to top ranked Warren in a Division 3 match. The Pirates knocked off Channel Islands in a five game thriller for the program's first CIF win since 2006. The Pirates aren't intimidated by their next opponent. "Our mentality is push. We say it every time we break, we push. We're going to give it everything we have, we don't care who we play, what team it is, we're going to push as hard as we can until we can't play anymore," said head coach James Bueno.
Santa Ynez cruised in its opener, but faces a much tougher task in the second round. The Pirates host South Torrance, the #2 seed in Division 3. First serve is set for 7pm.
The winners advance to Saturday's quarterfinals.
