A new study reveals it is possible to exercise too much!
There is no doubt exercise is one of the most effective ways to prevent chronic disease, improve heart health and prolong life, but researchers found that extreme endurance exercise, like ultramarathons or long distance cycle racing, can actually damage the heart.
These sports have been linked to a five-fold increase in irregular heart rhythms, which is a risk factor for cardiac death.
Other risks include myocardial scarring and stiffening of the arteries.
You are not off the hook just yet.
Experts stress that regular, moderate exercise is still extremely beneficial.
