Fire at vacant downtown building

Firefighters knocked down a fire in downtown Santa Barbara Thursday afternoon.

According to a spokesperson for Santa Barbara City Fire, the fire started around 12:15 p.m. at a vacant building in the 500 block of Chapala Street. The building has been home to Montecito Motors and Dal Pozzo Tire Corporation.

Crews from Santa Barbara City Fire, the Montecito Fire Department and the Santa Barbara County Fire Department had the flames out in a about 30 minutes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. According to the Santa Barbara Ciry Fire Department the estimated cost of the fire is $50,000.
