Fire causes car port to go up in flames causing explosions

Fire official were called out to the 900 block of East Jones Street in Santa Maria after reports of a structure fire.

The fire started Sunday night just before 5:30.

When crews arrived on scene it took about 45 minutes to gain control of the fire. The blaze was centered near a car port where about 12 to 13 cars caught on fire and exploded.

There are no reports of any injuries. The fire threatened near by homes and apartments but was contained to the car port.
