LOS ANGELES (AP) - Gusty Santa Ana winds are sweeping parts of Southern California as a high-pressure system continues to bring hot, dry weather and extreme fire danger.
The National Weather Service has issued red-flag warnings through Saturday afternoon for mountains and valleys. Gusts of nearly 50 mph are reported Friday morning in Malibu and nearly 80 mph in some mountain areas.
Hot weather also will continue. On Thursday Santa Barbara Airport recorded a record high for the day of 85 degrees, beating the 82 recorded in 1947. In San Diego County, Campo's 83 broke the 2003 record of 81.
The weather service also warns of high surf, reaching 8 feet in the Los Angeles area Friday night and up to 14 feet farther north.
