Fire officials brace for early fire season

Just days after their crews helped fight the Springs Fire near Camarillo, Central Coast fire officials are bracing for an early fire season closer to home.

At a news conference Wednesday afternoon in Santa Barbara, they urged people to take steps now to create defensible space around their homes and to be sure to have an immediate evacuation plan.

Fire officials say our lack of rain and fuel moisture levels have put this year's high fire season a couple of months ahead of schedule.

To prepare for an emergency, they say you should have a plan to get your pets safely out of your home and organize a supply kit with cash, water, medications, clothing, and important documents.
