Fire weather risk critical again in parts of SB county

A red flag warning in in effect until 9 am Friday for gusty winds northwest to northeast winds and low relative humidity for the mountains of Santa Barbara county including the foothills of the Santa Ynez range.

The gusty northerly winds from last night will weaken today but remain gusty into Friday. Meanwhile humidities will lower some. As a result critical fire weather conditions are expected to persist over the Santa Barbara county mountains through early Friday morning.

Overall improved conditions are expected Friday into Saturday.

Areas of northwest to north winds will increase to 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph late this afternoon then shift to north to northeast this evening before weakening Friday morning.

The strongest winds are expected over the Santa Ynez range this evening especially the Montecito Hills.

Humidities will fall into the lower teens this evening with moderately poor recoveries after midnight.

If fire ignition occurs there could be rapid spread of wildfire that would lead to a threat to life and property.
