RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) - A California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection firefighter has died after being hit by a truck while working along Interstate 10 in Riverside County.
Department spokesman Daniel Berlant says the firefighter was struck Friday morning and taken to Desert Regional Hospital, but died from the injuries.
The firefighter was an apparatus engineer and paramedic on a Riverside County Fire Department engine that was on the eastbound side of freeway in the Thousand Palms area when the accident occurred. Cal Fire has a contract relationship with the county.
The firefighter's name is being withheld pending family notification.
