Santa Barbara County fire crews began heavy lift and vehicle extrication training in Goleta on Thursday.
Thursday, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department was working in conjunction with Smitty's Towing to work through mock scenarios where two cars were trapped beneath an 80,000 pound big rig.
One of those cars was supposed to have two victims inside. Fire crews then worked to stabilize that car, while a heavy-duty tow truck lifted the big rig and removed the car from underneath it.
The fire crews then used extrication tools to remove the people safely from the trapped car.
Training, which will continue through Saturday, is supposed to address the need for utilizing heavy lifting while removing people from car accidents.
