Investigators are working to determine the cause of a vegetation fire that broke out along Highway 101 in Santa Barbara early Saturday morning.

The Santa Barbara City Fire Department responded to the scene on the southbound side of Highway 101 between Olive Mill Road and the Los Patos off-ramp around 5:08 a.m.

Officials say the fire began to spread to nearby Eucalyptus trees, but two engine companies put the fire out quickly.

One lane of the Highway was closed during the clean-up.

They say the area is a place where transients frequently gather, and investigators found evidence of a homeless camp nearby.

Officials are working on determining the cause of the fire.
