Arroyo Grande Hot Shot firefighters are running from Half Moon Bay to Morro Rock for a cause.
The event, Run the 1, is meant to raise awareness about homeless children in Rwanda. A local firefighter created the event a few years ago.
"Rwanda has had a pretty harsh past," said Shaun Sullivan. "They had a genocide in 1994. It's been almost 20 years, but their street problem is a big one, and it's just something I got into, and I decided I had to see those kids through."
Sullivan and 30 other firefighters will begin their 110 mile journey down the coast Friday morning. They hope to finish the run late Saturday afternoon at Morro Rock.
