Fireworks show in Pismo Beach attracts crowds from all over

Seating to watch the July 4th Fireworks Show in Pismo Beach could be difficult with the crowds, but there are some areas like Avila Beach or Shell Beach where you can catch a glimpse.

"Between the building and the end of the pier is where they launch them," said Kathy Thomson.

Thomson said every July 4th around 6:30pm, the front of her house in Pismo Beach gets crowded with cars and visitors looking for a good seat to watch the Pismo Beach fireworks show.

She said, "It is the Fourth of July and we understand why everybody's excited about it because we do have the best seats in the house."

Thomson said the madness actually ends up turning into a big party, which she and her husband Bob don't mind, but what they do mind, she said, is when visitors disrespect their waterfront property.

"Last year, we put cones and a chain across the driveway and people actually moved it," said Thomson.

The Thomsons said people have parked in their driveway, on the grass lawn, and even have urinated in a fountain they have on the front of their house.

But, if you're not one to watch the sparkle in the sky from a stranger's home, there are other places like Port San Luis and Avila Beach to watch the Pismo Fireworks show.

"I think a lot of people that come here for Fourth of July have a respect for where they are and realize this is a neighborhood," added Thomson.

While there will not be a fireworks show in Avila Beach or at Port San Luis on Thursday. There is a July 4th Parade of Boats at the end of the Avila Beach Pier.
