A double from San Luis Obispo High's Garrett Giovanelli scored Marco Murillo with the game-winning run in the top of the eighth inning to deliver a 7-6 extra inning win for the Tigers over host Righetti on Tuesday. The first place Tigers improved to 12-1 in PAC 7 League games and dropped the Warriors to 7-6 in league.
Murillo and Giovanelli both went 3 for 3 at the plate. Murillo scored three times and stole three bases. Giovanelli drove in two runs. Louie Summer and Davey Casciola added two hits apiece for the Tigers. Casciola also drove in two runs, while Summer scored twice and pitched a scoreless eighth inning to earn the save.
The Tigers out-hit the Warriors 12-10 in the victory.
Murillo started the Tigers' winning rally with a single to lead off the eighth inning. He stole second and later scored on Giovanelli's double to the wall.
The teams continue their three game series on Wednesday at Sinsheimer Stadium in San Luis Obispo.
The first place Atascadero High softball team cruised to a 9-0 win at last place St. Joseph on Tuesday. Jessie Hufstetler pitched a complete game and went 3 for 4 at the plate with a home run. The Greyhounds recorded 18 hits in 35 at-bats. They improved to 23-2 overall and 9-1 in PAC 7 action. The Knights fell to 1-7 in league games.
