Chronic alcohol abuse increases the risk of dementia, but a new study reveals fish oil could help prevent cognitive decline among heavy drinkers.
Researchers compared the brain cells of mice given large amounts of alcohol to mice given both alcohol and fish oil. The fish oil group had a 90% less inflammation and cell death than mice who did not get fish oil.
Experts say the best way to protect the brain is to stop drinking or cut back to moderate amounts of alcohol.
