The Five Cities Fire Authority is looking for a new chief.
Joel Aranaz stepped down on Friday.
The Five Cities Fire Authority isn't saying why he stepped down, but it all started last month.
The Fire Authority Board held a performance evaluation of the chief in a closed session meeting on April 26th.
KSBY was told the next week, Aranaz and the board came to a mutual agreement for him to step down.
Aranaz was sworn in as chief in February of last year.
Mike Hubert, who served as chief before Aranaz, has come out of retirement to fill the role temporarily.
The Five Cities Fire Authority Board will meet again to discuss how to fill the chief position, but no date has been set.
