Five Central Coast girls basketball teams advanced to the quarterfinals of the CIF-SS playoffs while two were defeated on Saturday. Morro Bay, San Luis Obispo, St. Joseph, Atascadero and Valley Christian Academy won while Pioneer Valley and Coast Union lost.
Eighth seeded Morro Bay went on the road to beat Rosary, 49-31 in the second round of the Division 4AA playoffs. The Pirates improve to 23-3 but will get their toughest test of the season in the quarterfinals. Morro Bay will host Windward on Wednesday, the Wildcats are 27-0. The team from Los Angeles is ranked second in the state and third in the nation by Max Preps. The Pirates won a coin toss to host the game.
San Luis Obispo won a second home game in the Division 3A playoffs to advance to the quarterfinals. The Tigers beat Ganesha, 57-33 and are now 17-10 on the season. San Luis Obispo will play at South Pasadena on Wednesday. South Pasadena is 21-5.
St. Joseph won at Paraclete, 61-40 in Division 4A. The Knights improve to 19-8 and will play at Cantwell-Sacred Heart on Wednesday. The 17-9 Cardinals are from Montebello.
Atascadero won 52-50 at Jurupa Hills in Division 3AA. The 16-9 Greyhounds will host Santa Barbara on Wednesday in the quarterfinals. The Dons are 22-7.
Valley Christian Academy disposed of Lee Vining, 58-14 in Division 6. The Lions improve to 21-2 with a home game against Capistrano Valley Christian coming up on Wednesday.
Pioneer Valley lost 51-46 at Thousand Oaks in Division 2AA while Coast Union dropped a 44-24 game at Holy Martyrs Armenian in Division 5A.
