The Morro Bay Recreation and Parks Department has taken down the flag that was flying in the Morro Bay City park, after KSBY News went digging for answers to see why it was being flown at night, without a light.

The department's director says it meant no disrespect, it just got behind on the maintenance. He says a new light has been ordered and the flag will remain down until it's installed. A new line will also be installed on the flag pole.

U.S. code says the flag can only fly at night if it's illuminated.

Morro Bay resident Gaelle Salver contacted KSBY News after she noticed the flag flying without a light for about a month.
