Flags lowered to half-staff Thursday for Peace Officers' Memorial Day

Nationally, May 15 of every year is designated as National Peace Officers' Memorial Day. City and County governments, churches, businesses, and people displaying the national flag are asked to lower the flag to half-staff.

This week is also considered Peace Officers' Memorial Week, and Thursday night is Law Enforcement night at the San Luis Obispo Farmers Market.

Law enforcement agencies from throughout San Luis Obispo County will display emergency and tactical equipment, including police service dogs.

The purpose of the week is to pay tribute to officers who put their lives at risk every day and to remember those who have died in the line of duty.
