The Eagles' Mallory Flatebo completed a hat-trick with a golden goal to deliver a thrilling come-from-behind 3-2 win at Pacifica in Garden Grove on Tuesday. The second round Division 3 CIF playoff victory improved the Arroyo Grande High girls' record to 17-1-6 overall. Pacifica fell to 13-9-3.
The Eagles trailed 2-0 at halftime in part because star defender Summer Soriano missed the game due to illness.
Arroyo Grande came to life early in the second half when Nadine Reed found Flatebo in the 47th minute. The Cal State San Bernardino recruit buried it from 18 yards out to make it a 2-1 game. Just four minutes later in the 51st minute, Flatebo scored the equalizer on an assist from Lupita Leon.
The game went into overtime after a Pacifica player's shot hit off the corner of the goal post with two minutes left in regulation.
Flatebo scored the golden goal in the 8th minute of overtime with a score that mirrored her first goal of the game.
The Pac-7 League champions advance to Thursday's quarterfinals where they will play at 2nd seeded Oaks Christian, who are 18-3-1.
