One of the drawbacks to the wonderful weather here on the Central Coast is that we have fleas all year ‘round.
Fleas enjoy humidity and moderate temperatures - just like we do. If you have ever seen fleas on your pets, or if you have itchy pets, it is important to maintain good flea control all year. Good flea control can be a tricky thing to achieve these days. Some of our favorite topical flea products seem to be failing - fleas in certain areas are becoming resistant. Internet companies may be pushing inferior or even counterfeit product in some cases. Many new products are on the market that may have interactions with certain medications or even present a risk to the human members of your family. It can all be very confusing.
To keep flea numbers at a minimum in your home: be sure to vacuum regularly and throw out the bag/empty the canister immediately; wash your pets' bedding regularly; keep the yard raked and tidy, especially in shady areas where pets sleep; work closely with a veterinarian in deciding which flea products to use, if any. It is rarely cost effective to simply buy the cheapest products.
At Animal Care Clinic we will work with you to choose the best products for your situation. We are available Monday through Friday 7:30-6, Saturday 9-3 and Monday nights until 8 p.m. Give us a call!
