GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Planners and engineers in the seven-state Colorado River Basin say a parched future could be in store for the region over the next 50 years.

Senior Colorado River District water resources engineer David Kanzer said Tuesday communities in the basin are living beyond their means. He says it is worse for communities downstream on the river, which has headwaters in Colorado.

According to the Glenwood Springs Post Independent, Colorado is working on a negotiation strategy prior to a seven-state meeting in Las Vegas next week.
