Former Cal Poly pitcher Evan Reed has earned his first shot at the big leagues. The Detroit Tigers recalled the 27 year old right-handed pitcher from their Triple-A team in Toledo on Thursday.
Detroit claimed Reed from the Miami Marlins in April. Reed is 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA with Toledo this season. He struck out 28 in 21 innings.
Reed was taken in the third round by the Texas Rangers in the 2007 Major League Draft.
The Tigers play Texas on Thursday.
Reed is the fifth former Mustang on a MLB roster this season. Bud Norris is a pitcher for Houston, Casey Fien and Kevin Correia are right-handed pitchers for Minnesota and Logan Schafer is a rookie outfielder for the Milwaukee Brewers.
