The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office says a former Santa Barbara County Fire Department employee turned himself in to authorities on Friday.
Robert Perez faces charges of grand theft and filing false tax returns.
The Sheriff's Office says Perez's alleged crimes occurred while he was the insurance administrator for the Santa Barbara County Firefighter's Local 2046.
The firefighter's union notified the Sheriff's Office of the alleged criminal activity in March of 2013.
