For years he was the face of the San Luis Obispo Police Department, serving as their Public Information Officer in the 1980s and 90s. After retirement, you could find Steven Seybold at any function tied to the San Luis Obispo Ski Club, SLO Blues Society, SLO Mardi Gras celebrations, or any event where music, fun and friends were to be found. You could also find him wherever there was a need for volunteer help. Steven was generous with his time and offers to help any organization or person.
Steven died Monday in a San Diego hospital after spending 6 weeks in a coma after a fall he took in Mexico. On January 1st, he went to a retreat in Manzanillo, Mexico and the first evening he was there fell off a wall after the railing he was leaning on gave way.
Friends who were there say Steven fell more than 30 feet, landing on his side on the concrete below. The fall broke numerous bones, and doctors induced a coma to operate on him.
About a week ago, Steven was transferred to a hospital in San Diego where he died on Monday. He was 62 years old.
A Celebration of Life for Steven is planned for March 9th at the San Luis Obispo Elks Club at 1:00 p.m. For more information, visit his Caring Bridge site by clicking here.
