After a successful high school and college football career that earned him a chance with the San Diego Chargers, Billy Vinnedge is passing on his knowledge to Central Coast athletes.
The second annual Billy Vinnedge Kicking Academy is set for later this month at St. Joseph High School. The camp dates are June 30, July 1 and July 7 from 9am-3 pm. Athletes receive instruction on field goals, punting and kickoffs. Age groups range from youth to college.
"The Central Coast I want to create a power house of kickers and now with the rating system coming in on it it's going to allow that opportunity for these kids to get Division I scholarships. It's just something I want to do to give back," said Vinnedge.
He has also secured a National Camp Series to provide ratings for high school and junior college kickers trying to get to a 4 year school. It will consist of charting kicks and some instruction at the end of the day. They are set for August 5 from 9am-2pm and October 28.
A two-day snapping camp will also take place from June 30-July 1. Danny Dutmer, a Division I college and NFL experienced snapper, will be the instructor.
Vinnedge kicked at Allan Hancock College and the University of Wyoming. He held the record at Arroyo Grande High for longest field goal at 54 yards until one of his students, Garrett Owens, kicked a 57 yarder in the fall of 2011. Owens earned a chance to kick at Oregon State. Several other participants in last year's camp went on to earn postseason accolades.
