Two former UCSB basketball players played on the losing sides of NBA preseason games on Wednesday night.
Greg Somogyi played five minutes for the Los Angeles Lakers in their 93-75 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. Orlando Johnson scored 2 points in the Indiana Pacers' 84-70 loss to the Minnesota Timberwloves.
The 7-3 Somogyi, who was signed as an undrafted free agent, came off the bench and hand 1 assist, 1 turnover and 1 personal foul. Steve Nash scored 13 points and Metta World Peace added 12 as the Lakers lost their second straight preseason game by double digits. Pau Gasol had eight points on 3-of-12 shooting. Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard did not play in the game due to injuries.
LaMarcus Aldridge added 14 points and eight rebounds for the Blazers in their preseason opener under new coach Terry Stotts.Portland surged to a 13-point lead in the third quarter while the Lakers' three healthy starters were still playing.
The 6-5 Johnson played 12 minutes for the Pacers off the bench. He missed all four of his shots from the floor, including two 3-pointers. He made both of his free throw attempts to account for his points. He also had one rebound, one assist and one blocked shot.
Kevin Love had 12 points and 8 rebounds in 27 minutes for the Timberwolves.
