LOS ANGELES (AP) - Authorities say a former music industry executive is in critical condition in Los Angeles after being allegedly cut with a machete by his girlfriend's suicidal ex-husband.
Police Sgt. Alex Kim tells City News Service the couple was held hostage for more than five hours Sunday at the woman's Woodland Hills home.
Kim says the victim, Jerry Sharell, was cut on the neck.
Eventually the woman was able to get away and call police. Officers ordered the suspect to drop the machete. By the time he did, he had slit his own wrists.
The suspect and the victim were both hospitalized.
The woman was also injured.
Sharell, who hosts "Sundays With Sinatra" on radio station KJazz, worked with the Eagles, Linda Rondstadt and Motley Crue during a career as music executive.
