St. Joseph High graduate Kara June officially saw her London Olympic dreams end, but former Mustang Ben Bruce remains in the hunt at the US Olympic Track and Field Trials.
June did not qualify for the final in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase on Monday. She finished twelfth in her qualifying heat with a time of 10:32.98. Bridge Frank from Nike won the heat with a time of 9:44.05. June's time ranked 24th in the field of 24. Only the top 14 runners advanced to Thursday's finals.
The 29 year old set a personal-best at Hayward Field of 9:49.56 at the 2008 Olympic Trials.
In the men's steeplechase, Bruce won his heat with a time of 8:29.00 to automatically advance to Thursday's final. The 29 year old Bruce graduated from Cal Poly in 2005. Bruce finished 12th at the 2008 Olympic Trials. He is looking to earn a spot on his first USA Olympic Team.
The men's final is at 6:30 pm on Thursday.
