Former narcotics officer admits guilt in stealing drugs

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - The former commander of a California narcotics task force is pleading guilty to stealing drugs from evidence lockers and trying to sell them on the street with the help of a private investigator.
The San Francisco Chronicle (http://bit.ly/11tUQNm) says 51-year-old Norman Wielsch will enter pleas this week to five charges. Plea deal documents were filed in federal court on Monday.
Wielsch up to 17 years in prison when he's sentenced in February.
Wielsch was commander of the Central Costa County Narcotics Enforcement Team, an elite multi-agency team that conducted drug raids and shut down prostitution rings.
He and private investigator Christopher Butler were indicted for stealing drugs, operating a brothel and conducting phony sting operations to rob prostitutes.
Butler pleaded guilty and is in prison.
