Santa Barbara County Sheriff's have arrested a former youth baseball coach who they believe molested a 13-year-old boy almost 20 years ago.
Detectives became aware of the incident while investigating a separate case in late 2009. A spokesperson for the sheriff's department says 46-year-old Andrew Greenaway was a youth baseball coach in Vandenberg Village in 1991. During that summer, Greenaway asked the parents of one of his players if their son could join some of the other teammates for an overnight trip to Disneyland. On the day the team was supposed to leave, Greenaway told the parents that all the other teammates had cancelled, but he was still willing to take the boy on the trip.
Detectives believe Greenaway molested the 13-year-old victim while staying at the Disneyland Hotel, but do not know if the victim was molested on other occasions.
The sheriff's department believes there may be more victims. Greenaway has coached youth basketball, youth baseball, and youth football teams between 1990 - 2004.
If you or anyone you know may have been a victim, please contact the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department at 805-681-4150 or the Sheriff's Anonymous Tip Line at 805-681-4171.
Greenaway was booked into the North Santa Barbara County Jail for molestation and kidnapping/enticing with the intent to molest. His bail is set at $1,000,000.
