Four Cabrillo High football players have been selected for the third annual FCA All Star Football Classic. They will play for the Northern Santa Barbara County team, which leads the all-time series against the top graduating seniors from San Luis Obispo County 2-0.
Offensive lineman Ryan Brock, kicker Stephen Dalton, defensive back and running back Nick Pence and linebacker Tony Brown will represent the Conquistadores.
"When I found out what it was all about, I was like what do I have to do to be on it and then I was like it's only seniors. So the whole year I was working hard and was like I really hope I can make the team and be on the all star team. So it's a real honor. It's a cool thing," said Dalton, who earned All-Los Padres League First Team honors at punter. Dalton is also Cabrillo's nominee for the Northern Santa Barbara County Athletic Round Table's Male Athlete of the Year.
"I definitely think we have a really good chance especially looking at the papers and if we just go out there and play I think we're going to win," said Pence, who was an All-League Honorable Mention in the fall.
Brock was named to the All-League First Team Defense at linebacker, while Brock garnered All-League First Team Offense recognition. Cabrillo went 4-6 last season and 3-3 in LPAL action.
The player announcement was made at Rio Vista Chevrolet in Buellton. "We've been involved in this game for the last three years. We just love to support the community, the Central coast here. It's a lot of fun. It's a great game," said Sam Sell, a co-owner of Rio Vista Chevrolet. The dealership donated $2,500 toward the car raffle that will be awarded.
Game and ticket sales are available at the participating schools. Kick off is set for 7pm at Lompoc High on Saturday, June 1.
All funds raised by the schools and all other proceeds from the game go directly back to the schools. The previous two games raised more than $280,000.
