Clear skies and light winds will produce some very cold temperatures tonight, near record lows in some spots with low to mid 20s in parts of the interior of SLO county.
A number of advisories have been posted for the event:
The Cuyama Valley has a freeze warning in place, the Santa Ynez Valley and the Central and Southcoast are under a frost advisory thru 9am.
Freezing conditions will develop in the advisory area after 3am. Temps will drop below 32 degrees and stay there for several hours potentially damaging plants in the frost advisory area, temps will drop below 28 degrees in the freeze warning area.
Outside of those advisories the clear skies will allow temps to rebound a bit on Thursday back into the lower 60s for most of the coast however the interior valleys will likely only reach the mid 50s.
Friday looks partly cloudy with lower 60s for the coast, however Saturday clouds roll in and rain is likely for the Central Coast. Anywhere from .25-1.25" is likely. Sunday a few showers are possible early otherwise skies should be partly to mostly cloudy. More rain is in the forecast Monday.
Interestingly, if you believe long term computer models, the next thing to keep an eye on is New Year's Eve. Computer models like a very cold system which could produce snow, even near the coast. It should be said that is still some time out, but it is something we are watching.
