FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - A Fresno businessman has been convicted of trying to hire a hit man to kill a former business partner.
The Fresno Bee (http://bit.ly/O3Abfa ) says Daljit Singh was convicted Thursday of soliciting murder. He was acquitted of possessing a stolen handgun.
He faces up to nine years in prison.
Singh owns a limousine and towing service.
A police informant secretly taped Singh saying that he wanted the death of his ex-business partner, Fresno Planning Commission member Rama Dawar. Prosecutors say Dawar had been awarded nearly $41,000 from Singh in a lawsuit.
The defense argued that Singh was just expressing anger at Dawar and never intended to kill him.
Attorney Anthony Capozzi says he'll seek a new trial.
