More than a hundred people filled the St. Louis deMontfort Church this morning in Orcutt to remember former Santa Maria city councilman 76-year-old Leo Trujillo. Reverand Charles Hofschulte led the ceremony and spoke about Trujillo's involvement with more than a dozen community organizations. He described Trujillo as a good man, an honest man, and a righteous man. Trujillo was the oldest of eight children and had been married to his wife Eileen for 45 years. He was also a retired captain in the Navy reserves.
Santa Maria Mayor Larry Lavignino, who worked with Trujillo during his years on the city council, gave an emotional benediction, which he ended with, "You will be missed, my fond friend. I salute you." Trujillo died last weekend of a ruptured aortic valve. He was 76 years old.
