Investigators now say two young people died in a murder-suicide in San Luis Obispo County Wednesday.

The victims have been identified as 19-year-old Stephanie Rodriguez of Templeton and 22-year-old Hugo Castillo of Atascadero.

Both were found dead inside a car off Highway 58 early Wednesday morning.

Those who knew Rodriguez say she was a lively person who was always singing, dancing and boosting other people's spirits.

Then tragedy, she was found dead inside her car early Wednesday morning alongside 22-year-old Hugo Castillo.

"At this point it appears to be a murder-suicide and we're investigating it as such," said Rob Bryn of the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies will not confirm how Rodriguez and Castillo knew each other or how they died, but friends say they used to date and broke up a couple of months ago.

They say Castillo was upset that Rodriguez did not want to get back together.

Investigators worked all day and night Wednesday trying to put the pieces together.

They say an open case out of Atascadero helped them figure out what happened.

"We received information earlier about a possible missing person case in Atascadero," said Bryn. "We were looking for the vehicle and subsequently it was located off of Highway 58."

Two young lives cut short in an apparent murder-suicide.

Meanwhile the moments leading up to their deaths remain a mystery.

Rodriguez worked at a plastics plant in Paso Robles and her supervisor says Castillo was constantly harassing Rodriguez with calls, emails and flowers.

She reportedly told her supervisor Monday she would never consider getting back together with Castillo.

Autopsies are scheduled for Friday and investigators expect to know more once those results come in, but they say that could take several weeks.
