Pioneer Valley senior Gabriel Fuentes is the Friday Night Highlights Player of the Week. Fuentes was a big play machine on both sides of the ball in the Panthers 25-23 win against Paso Robles on Friday in Santa Maria. The two point upset win was the first Pac-7 victory for the Panthers since they joined the league last year.
The 5'8, 155-pound Fuentes carried 11-times for 198 yards including a 61-yard touchdown. He caught 2-passes for 38-yards and defensively forced a fumble with a sack, the fumble was recovered by a teammate and run in for a touchdown.
For winning, Fuentes will receive a gift card to our Player of the Week sponsor, Subway.
The two runner ups gave Fuentes a good run for this week's award. Atascadero sophomore quarterback Robbie Berwick who is a good basketball player, has filled in nicely at QB for the Greyhounds this seson. On Friday Berwick was 6 of 7 passing for 180-yards and two touchdowns in Atascadero's 48-43 win against St. Joseph. Berwick also ran for two scores including a game winning 19-yard touchdown run late.
Arroyo Grande's Gabe Deleon is the other honorable mention. Deleon had 10-carries for 133-yards and three scores in a 28-7 win at Righetti.
