Drivers traveling on Highway 101 through Atascadero at late hours this week will have to deal with a big detour.
Caltrans crews will be closing off all northbound lanes of Highway 101 near the Highway 41 Interchange for two nights beginning Wednesday night at 10:00pm. The closure will last between 10:00pm and 5:00am each night.
Crews will be replacing concrete slabs on the highway as part of the Highway 101 Atascadero Rehabilitation Project.
Drivers headed that direction on the highway will have to exit at Highway 41 before continuing to the northbound Highway 101 on-ramp at Rosario Road. Caltrans says it will set up detour signs to help drivers, and that any delays shouldn't exceed ten minutes.
Caltrans says this road rehabilitation project includes repaving 11 miles of Highway 101 from north of the Cuesta Grade to Traffic Way. Caltrans also plans to widen bridges at Santa Margarita Creek, Atascadero Creek and resurface the on and off-ramps at Santa Margarita, San Diego Road, Santa Rosa Road, Curbaril Avenue, Highway 41 and Traffic Way.
The project is expected to be finished in the spring of 2012.
