Bailey Gaither went 3 for 3 with a single, double and a home run to lead the Paso Robles baseball team to a 5-4 win over Buhach Colony during day three of Righetti's Spring Classic on Thursday.
Gaither, a sophomore, crushed a high fastball and drilled it over the left field wall with one out in the bottom of the first inning to give the Bearcats an early 1-0 lead. The Thunder took advantage of a throwing error to score two runs in the second and take a 2-1 lead.
Gaither walked, stole second and third base and scored on a wild pitch in the third inning to tie the game at 2-2.
The Bearcats scored three runs in the fifth inning and carried a 5-2 lead into the sixth inning behind sophomore starting pitcher Jonathan Baldwin. He got into trouble in the sixth and allowed two runs to score and loaded the bases with one out when Paul Andersen came into the game out of the bullpen. The junior induced a double play to the first batter he faced to escape the jam and pitched a scoreless seventh to preserve the win.
Kris Pequeno added 2 hits for the Bearcats.
The 4-6 Bearcats face St. Bonaventure on Friday to close out the tournament at 10am at Elk's Field in Santa Maria. St. Bonaventure lost 10-1 to host Righetti.
