ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say raids targeting a violent Anaheim gang have ended with 44 arrests.

Federal, state and local agents hit 54 locations on Friday, capping a yearlong investigation of the East Side Anaheim gang suspected of drug dealing and murder.

Those arrested face federal and state charges.

Authorities also seized 11 pounds of crystal methamphetamine and 40 guns, included sawed-off shotguns and a pistol believed used in a killing.

The Orange County Register (bit.ly/QVDtTg) says the raids focused on Anna Drive, the neighborhood where a reputed gang member was shot by police last month.

The back-to-back deaths of Manuel Diaz and another man sparked violent protests.

Police Chief John Welter says the raids weren't connected to the shootings. He says authorities even considered delaying the raids to avoid that appearance.
